Fujifilm x half is coming this June 6
Photography enthusiasts and content creators in the Philippines will soon get their hands on Fujifilm’s latest innovation that bridges the gap between vintage film photography and modern digital convenience. The X Half, officially designated as the FUJIFILM X-HF1, arrives in local stores on June 6 with a retail price of PHP 44,990.

The compact camera represents a bold departure from conventional digital photography, drawing inspiration from classic half-frame film cameras that were popular in the 1960s. Fujifilm‘s heritage in this space dates back to 1963 with the FUJICA Half, and the new X Half continues that legacy while addressing contemporary photography needs.
Vertical-First Design for Social Media Generation
What sets the X Half apart is its deliberate focus on vertical photography. The camera features a unique 3:4 aspect ratio that differs from the standard formats found in most digital cameras, making it particularly suited for social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook Stories. The device includes both a vertical optical viewfinder and an LCD monitor optimized for this orientation, acknowledging how people naturally use their smartphones for photography.

“This aligns perfectly with the growing trend of users, especially among Gen Z, who want dedicated devices to use alongside their smart devices as they try to find the balance between minimizing distractions, while documenting and sharing their lives online,” explained Victor Ha, vice president of Fujifilm North America’s Electronic Imaging division.

Film Experience Meets Digital Convenience
The X Half maximizes its 1-inch sensor technology to deliver an authentic film photography experience in digital format. The 18-megapixel sensor, with 17 megapixels effective resolution for the 3:4 aspect ratio, works behind a Fujinon 10.8mm f/2.8 Super EDC lens equivalent to 25mm in full-frame terms.

Central to the camera’s appeal is its Film Camera Mode, which transforms the shooting experience into something reminiscent of disposable cameras. Users must wind the Frame Advance Lever after each shot, can only view photos after “developing” them through the dedicated X Half app, and receive images in a contact sheet layout for 36, 54, or 72 exposures.

The camera includes 13 Film Simulation modes that recreate classic Fujifilm analog film varieties, plus three new creative filters specifically inspired by film photography: Light Leak for slightly overexposed looks, Halation for halo effects around light sources, and Expired Film for that grainy vintage aesthetic.
Creative Features for Modern Storytelling
One standout feature is the 2-in-1 functionality, allowing users to combine two vertical frames into a single composition. This works with still images, videos, or a combination of both, operated through the Frame Advance Lever or the companion smartphone app. The feature opens new storytelling possibilities for creative photographers and content creators.

The camera also includes practical modern conveniences like a Date Stamp function reminiscent of old Kodak cameras, built-in LED flash that’s brighter than typical smartphone flashes, and direct connectivity to Fujifilm’s Instax smartphone printers. Video recording capabilities extend to 1440 by 1080 resolution, maintaining the vertical orientation theme.
Compact Design, Substantial Battery Life
Weighing just 240 grams including battery and memory card, the X Half measures 105.8mm by 64.3mm by 30mm, making it roughly two-thirds the size of Fujifilm’s popular X100VI. Despite its compact size, the camera delivers impressive 880-frame battery life and includes connectivity options like Bluetooth, WiFi, and USB-C.
The camera will be available in three color options: Silver, Charcoal Silver, and Black, catering to different aesthetic preferences.

Local Availability
Filipino photography enthusiasts can purchase the X Half starting June 6 at JG Superstore, Henry’s Cameras, official Fujifilm stores, and authorized dealers nationwide. The PHP 44,990 price point positions it as a premium compact camera that offers unique creative possibilities for both photography newcomers and experienced enthusiasts looking for a distinctive shooting experience.
